There is speculation going around that Jordan may be looking towards running Renault powered engines next year, in the wake of Fords dismissal from Formula One. It has been reported that Ford Cosworth has agreed to keep manufacturing engines for team Jordan, but at an expense of double the regular fee, at $38 million a year. Jordan, already under a financial cloud, having to find new engines and drivers for next season, will have to look for a suitable choice, both performance and financial wise.
Already this season, rumours were flying, that Jordan were looking towards Toyota powered engines next season, but looked unlikely as Jordan was still attached to a contract with Cosworth. Now, with the departure of Cosworth from Formula One, this seems like a plausible outcome.
Team Directing Manager, Eddie Jordan, commented on Ford’s exit, “I felt very much a part of Ford. I am really disappointed and surprised… it blew me away. I have written to (Jaguar’s Premier Performance Division CEO) Tony Purnell and said I am disappointed.”
It is believed that Eddie Jordan has discussed plans with both Renault and Toyota for a possible customer engine deal for 2005.
