You are flat-out at over 200mph along the long back straight at the Shanghai International Circuit, and approaching the heavy-braking zone into Turn 14.

The last thing you would want to happen, and would expect, is for your front-wheels to fly off just as you touch the brakes.

But on April 14th, 2010 that is exactly what happened to poor Sebastien Buemi in his Toro Rosso.

The Swiss racer threw out the anchors as his front wheels made a bid for freedom by breaking loose, with Buemi incredibly still trying to apply the brakes as he headed into the gravel.

The team would diagnose the cause as being a failure of the newly-upgraded front-right upright.

After it failed, the entire load was transferred onto the left-front which could not cope and failed simultaneously.

Repairs were made for Free Practice 2, as Buemi went onto to retire from the wet/dry race with after a first lap collision in which he was an innocent party.
